Marco Allegra (Laurea, International relations, University of Torino; MA Near and Middle Eastern Studies, SOAS - University of London; PhD Political Science, University of Torino) is postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-UL), where he integrates the research group "Ambiente, Território e Sociedade" (Environment, Territory and Society). He is Principal Investigator of the project exPERts.


His area of expertise includes Middle East politics, planning theory and urban studies; his current research activities focus on Israels settlement policy in the area of Jerusalem, and on the role of knowledge and professional expertise in the policy process. Between 2011 and 2015 he has worked as postdoctoral researcher at CIES-IUL; between 2008 and 2011 he has worked as postdoctoral researcher, lecturer, teaching assistant at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Turin, also contributing to the MA program in Global Studies.

His publications include, among other things, several articles in peer-reviewed journals (Citizenship Studies, Israel-Palestine Journal, Mediterranean Politics, The Geography Compass, Environment and Planning A, Urban Studies, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research); a monograph on the history of Palestinian people (Carocci 2010); and an edited volume on planning conflicts (with Enrico Gualini and Joao Mourato; Jovis 2015).

He is currently editing a collection on Israels settlement policy (with Ariel Handel and Erez Maggor; Indiana University Press, forthcoming 2016) and working on a monograph on his research on the Jewish settlement of Maale Adumim.
